EBR Public School Chess Tournament

The Foundation for East Baton Rouge School System and the Louisiana Scholastic Chess Association partnered to host The ChessMates Classic, an unrated Scholastic Chess Tournament, on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Scotlandville Middle Pre-Engineering Magnet Academy. The tournament was open to all K-12 students.

Cowfolk

I am working on my memoir. In this video, I talk about growing up as a cowboy and life on the range. When I shot this, none of the actors (my family) had any idea what I was doing. They were given their lines and, much to my surprise and appreciation, they willingly participated.

For the past 15 years we (School Aids) have held an annual catalog meeting with a group of manufacturer's representatives. It's usually a two day event that concludes with a crawfish boil and poker game at Lake Rosemound. Almost every year my Dad takes everyone's money in the poker game. This year I stacked a deck with a killer hand to suck him into a big game he could not win. 

The game was Texas Hold'em. My Dad was dealt pocket kings. My brother was dealt pocket jacks. Another player got pocket queens, and another pocket aces. The line was cast. We flopped an ace, king and jack. The hook was set. The turn brought a king and the river an ace. We reeled them in.

This year we turned the tables. My Dad got the winning hand, and he was in on the con. Again, the game was Texas Hold'em. Five players got pocket pairs and flopped a three of a kind. My Dad had the Aces. This ain't brain science.
